Artists: From left to right Ndumiso Nyoni, Zinhle Sithebe, and Wayne Beukes
As South Africa celebrates Heritage Month, Douwe Egberts, a brand synonymous with premium coffee, proudly announces the launch of its new limited-edition collectable jars. These exclusive designs are available on all 200g variants, allowing consumers to enjoy their preferred blend while collecting the full range of artistic jars. These jars are not just containers of exceptional coffee, but also canvases for artistic expression and upcycling potential.
The “A Brew-tiful Beginning” campaign marks a unique initiative where Douwe Egberts collaborated with four talented local artists to reimagine the iconic coffee jar. These artists, chosen for their distinctive styles and deep connection to South African culture, have decorated each jar with stories that celebrate the nation’s diversity.
Zinhle Sithebe’s vibrant patterns pay tribute to South African women, while Ndumiso Nyoni’s Afrofuturistic style beautifully blends tradition with modernity. Bonolo Chepape’s textile-inspired design showcases Pedi culture, and Wayne Beukes’ urban artwork adds a contemporary edge.
This initiative highlights Douwe Egberts’ ongoing commitment to supporting local talent and promoting upcycling through creative reuse.
“Douwe Egberts has always been about more than just great coffee. With these limited-edition jars, we’re excited to blend our passion for quality with a deep appreciation for South African culture and sustainability. ‘A Brew-tiful Beginning’ initiative invites our consumers to take part in this journey, turning something as simple as a coffee jar into a creative and purposeful home essential,” says Hayley Van Niekerk, Marketing Manager at Douwe Egberts.
The jars offer endless possibilities for upcycling, from storage and food preservation to DIY decorations. Once the coffee is enjoyed, the air-tight jar provides a durable and stylish solution for various home uses, combining environmental consciousness with practical value.
“This Heritage Month, we’re not just offering coffee, but a commitment to sustainability and thoughtful living. Our limited-edition jars are designed to be cherished long after the coffee is gone, encouraging upcycling and creative reuse in everyday life. At Douwe Egberts, we believe in delivering value that goes beyond taste, aligning with our consumers’ desire for quality and eco-consciousness,” explains Mbulelo Mashilo, Brand Manager at Douwe Egberts.
The limited-edition 200g collectable jars will be available in stores nationwide starting this Heritage Month. Coffee lovers are encouraged to visit their nearest retailer, online or instore, to enjoy their favourite while collecting the full range of artistic designs and proudly displaying a piece of South Africa’s cultural heritage in their homes.
