The Japanese are known for their meticulous craftsmanship and Roku Japanese Gin is a true embodiment of their culture. Meaning “six” is Japanese, Roku incorporates six traditional Japanese botanicals that are infused, distilled and blended into the smooth gin in Osaka, Japan.
Suntory’s history dates back to 1899, and since then has earned its reputation as one of Japan’s most prestigious spirits producers, mastering the art of gin distilling since 1936. Roku Japanese Gin was born out of a vision to create a truly authentic Japanese product to meet the international demand for a premium crafted gin with a distinctive and balanced flavour.
Crafted by Japanese artisans with skilful precision and meticulous attention to detail, the flavour profile is achieved by balancing six unique Japanese botanicals – Sakura flower, Sakura leaf, Yuzu peel, Sencha tea, Gyokuro tea and Sansho pepper. These iconic ingredients are harvested following ‘shun’, the tradition of enjoying each ingredient at its best by only harvesting at its peak flavour.
In a process unique to Roku, the Japanese botanicals are distilled using a selection of different pot stills, each chosen to ensure that the best flavour is extracted from each botanical. The result is a harmoniously complex gin with a smooth and silky texture. A signature of Japanese craftsmanship is meticulous attention to detail and this extends to the bottle design as well. Roku is bottled in a hexagonal shape to represent each Japanese botanical and is finished with delicate embossing.
While we might not all be lucky enough to visit Japan and experience the masters at work in person, bring Japan into your home with a bottle of Roku Japanese Gin. It’s best enjoyed in a Japanese Gin & Tonic, and served with ice, and slices of ginger to reflect the spirit of Japanese hospitality, Omotenashi, and is a refreshing ritual that deserves to be enjoyed with those nearest and dearest to you.
Roku Japanese Gin is available at a recommended retail price of R380 in major retailers nationally; Makro, Pick n Pay, Checkers, and selected TOPS at Spar. You can also order online through Takealot, Norman Goodfellows and others.
