Lethabo Mothwa, the leading lady and sommelier at the Johannesburg Marriott Hotel, Melrose Arch, has been making waves in the wine industry since 2018. Her journey began with a deep fascination for wine, sparked by a tasting experience that led her to pursue formal education through the Cape Wine Academy and the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET). Lethabo’s impressive career includes representing Bayede Royal Wines, appointed by King Goodwill Zwelithini of the Zulu Nation, and working at Big Five Duty-Free at OR Tambo International Airport.
Bordeaux Mentor Week: A Global Recognition
Bordeaux Mentor Week is a highly esteemed program that selects eight promising wine scholars from around the world to participate in an intensive, immersive week in Bordeaux, France. This program offers hands-on experience in all aspects of the wine industry, from harvest and blending to production, tasting, marketing, and distribution. It aims to inspire and empower young wine professionals, providing them with unparalleled access to the wines and the people of Bordeaux.
Lethabo’s selection for this program underscores her remarkable skills and potential. As the only South African chosen for Bordeaux Mentor Week 2024, she will represent her country on an international stage, gaining invaluable insights and experience that she will bring back to the Johannesburg Marriott Hotel, Melrose Arch.
