MACARONI & WORS BAKE

Another yummy way to enjoy South Africa’s favourite boerewors

INGREDIENTS

  • 250g boerewors (cut into bite-size pieces)
  • 1½ cups macaroni
  • ½ large onion(sliced)
  • 1 can tomato relish
  • 1/3 cup smokey BBQ sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons BBQ spice
  • 2 tablespoons garlic butter
  • 1 teaspoon tomato soup
  • 1½ cups grated cheddar & mozzarella
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • oil for frying
  • dried parsley for garnish
  • water

METHOD

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C.
  2. In a pot on high heat add boiling water and salt, add the macaroni and let it cook until al dente. Once cooked, drain the pasta and set aside.
  3. Place the pot on medium heat and add onions & boerewors. Let the onions and wors cook for 5 to 10 minutes then add tomato relish, BBQ sauce, BBQ spice, sugar, tomato soup and garlic butter to the pot and stir. Leave on the heat uncovered for another 5 to 10 minutes stirring occasionally.
  4. Once the sauce has thickened, put the macaroni back into the pot and add half of the cheese. Gently mix the pasta and the sauce, transfer into a baking dish, sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and a little parsley.
  5. Place in the oven for 10 mins or until golden brown on top.
  6. Serve warm with a fresh green salad.
