Compass Box Whisky, the maverick Scotch brand known for its boundary-breaking approach to blending, storytelling, and transparency, has made a striking entrance into the South African market with a series of intimate, high-concept events designed to introduce its newly launched Core Collection.
More than just tastings, these activations have reimagined what whisky engagement can look like — blending food, art, culture, and conversation to bring the brand’s “Long Live Interesting” ethos to life for a new generation of discerning, curious drinkers.
Compass Box is collaborating with iconic venues and tastemakers across South Africa to host a series of bespoke, invite-only experiences where whisky isn’t simply poured — it’s enjoyed. Curated for a dynamic mix of industry insiders, creatives, media personalities, and culture-forward thought leaders, each activation invites guests to explore the bold, imaginative potential of blended Scotch in settings that celebrate curiosity, conversation, and craft. With more events still to come, the journey into Compass Box’s world of flavour and disruption is only just beginning.
Among the Highlights:
Whisky & Cigars
The launch series began at Johannesburg’s exclusive Bolton House in June, where Compass Box partnered with Hello Lifestyle to host a refined yet edgy evening of premium whisky tasting and cigar pairings. Attended by a curated mix of high-net-worth individuals, lifestyle media, influencers, and hospitality leaders, the event offered guests a guided introduction to the Core Collection — with Crimson Casks taking centre stage. Set in an, the activation brought Compass Box’s “Long Live Interesting” philosophy to life through bold flavours, strategic networking, and a relaxed, elevated atmosphere.
The Art of Food
The next activation will be set in Johannesburg at the end of July. It will include an immersive experience co-curated with The Virtual Mobile Gallery and creative force Napsta Group, which will pair Compass Box’s Peat Monster blend with contemporary African art, bold cuisine, and performance.
An Interesting Disruption
A sensory-led tasting at Monneaux Restaurant in collaboration with Franschhoek Life Magazine in August, will bring together a handpicked group of lifestyle tastemakers for an evening of connection and storytelling based on aesthetics of the evening, the menu and the anticipated tasting of the Nectarosity blend.
These events formed the experiential backbone of Compass Box’s local launch strategy — designed not only to introduce the Core Collection (Crimson Casks, Nectarosity, Orchard House, and The Peat Monster), but to communicate the brand’s deeper purpose. As Compass Box founder John Glaser puts it:
“The reason our company exists is to make the world of Scotch whisky a more interesting place.”
Spearheaded by the newly released Crimson Casks — a richly Sherried blend with spicy intensity and deep character — each event invited guests to think differently about what Scotch can be. From the brightness of Orchard House to the smoky complexity of The Peat Monster, the range represents Compass Box’s most complete statement yet on how creativity, flavour, and craftsmanship can collide.
This series of activations marks just the beginning of Compass Box’s journey in South Africa — one that invites drinkers to step away from the expected and explore whisky with curiosity, openness, and a healthy disregard for convention.
